“Show; Don’t Tell”

2015 | 8”x10” | Mixed-media:
Prismacolor Verithin red/blue colored pencil, Derwent Inktense pencils, white charcoal, and water brush on cold press watercolor paper.

Seated in contemplation, the spider calls for one to seize their destiny and begin weaving their own story. A quill in one hand, for journaling and self reflection, and in another she upholds positive thoughts—small things making eternal efforts to defy gravity like the hummingbird. The golden arrow of Eros is broken, along with a dependency on unhealthy attachments. Now is the time for independence, though she bares herself with bravery, a veil taking the place of her masks. The crown of asters she wears serves as a reminder that recovery takes patience.”

“SHOW; DON’T TELL” acknowledges that we cannot simply tell others of our healing and progress. We must wait for it to show.

FLORIOGRAPHY:
• Asters: Patience; Named for the Greek word for “Star”; it was believed asters sprung from the tears of Astrea, Goddess of Justice who was driven from the world by lawlessness and placed on the sky as the constellation Virgo.
